The Duke Robillard Band, a five-piece powerhouse band, takes the audience on a tour of early American jazz and blues. Robillard gets people up and moving to a repertoire ranging from songs by T-Bone Walker and Charlie Christian to classic Kansas City swing music, to gut-bucket blues.
Next on the bill is 40-plus-year blues veteran John Hammond who attacks the guitar and harmonica and vocals. Hammond's unforgettable voice runs the gamut from big and gruff to sly and sexy, while his stellar steel guitar work and harp playing would be at home in any gritty roadside honky tonk.
